1/30/24 Blog: The New House Minority Leader, and a CD-4 Candidate

WELCOME TO THE NEW MINORITY LEADER Rose Pugliese was elevated to Minority Leader when Mike Lynch stepped down and she's on today to talk about this legislative session and what the Republicans are trying to stop or support. She joins me at 12:30

DEBORAH FLORA HAS NEVER BEEN ARRESTED And she's one of three candidates out of nine running for the 4th Congressional seat being vacated by Ken Buck who can say that. She's on today to talk about her policy positions, her plans if she gets elected and more. I sure hope you tune in at 1 to listen. You can click here for more or to give her money.

GET READY TO PAY MORE TO FILL UP YOUR TANK Because gas prices are about to rise in Denver. There are a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the summer formulations for gas that cost quite a bit more to produce that we have to use in Colorado now because Jared Polis welcomed action by the EPA to force it. Read the other reasons why here but be sure and thank our Dear Leader Polis for his inaction.

BIDEN WON'T ATTACK IRAN Even though Iran is using proxies to attack us. He pretty much said he won't attack Iran when he said,

"I don't think we need a wider war in the Middle East. That's not what I'm looking for," said Biden.

I'm sure the families of the three dead service members agree. JK, they probably don't.

A SHOOTING ON AN RTD BUS Leaves two men with injuries and a bus driver rattled. Do you know how often there are gunshots fired in my car? Zero times. Zero.

AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE STABBINGS AT THE HOMELESS HOTEL That I mentioned yesterday. I'm glad some of the new media is picking this story up. Read it here.

WHAT NEIGHBORHOOD HAD THE MOST CRIME IN JANUARY? I was actually very surprised by the leader on this tote board. Central Park, or Stapleton as it's still known, had the most overall crime followed by DIA (because of car thefts) and then Five Points. Read the rest of them here.

JOHN STOSSEL ON ARGENTINA'S NEW PRESIDENT This is a great story on the new liberty loving President of Argentina Javier Milei.

DENVER VOTES TO BAN HOMELESS CAMP SWEEPS IN THE COLD And we'll see if Mayor Mike Johnston follows through on his promise to veto this move because he says it is too hard to enforce and prevents people from coming in from the cold during dangerous low temperatures. The City Council passed it, but just barely and without enough votes to override a veto. We'll see how much the Mayor meant that promise.

MIKE JOHNSON WON'T TALK BORDER SECURITY BECAUSE HE'S A GOOD DEMOCRAT And open borders are the policy of the Democrat party. This long analysis sort of nibbles around that statement but I fixed it for them. I am frustrated with this article because of the way it softly characterizes the differences between the Trump administration's policies on the border vs. Biden's. Check this:

Reports said Trump, the GOP frontrunner, has been pressuring Republicans for weeks to kill the negotiations. During his presidency, Trump had adopted tougher immigration policies on the U.S.-Mexico border, which became more closed off. Biden reversed many of the Trump-era policies.

If you click through to the link provided on "became more closed off" it links to report by a pro-illegal immigration group that accuses Trump era policies of leading to a loss of humanitarian protections and random enforcement without ONCE mentioning the dramatic drop in border crossings, which is patently unfair and biased reporting. The Denver Gazette has two reporters on the southern border right now reporting back as part of a series, I can only hope their reporting is more fair than this story which seems designed to give Mayor Mike Johnston cover for the Biden failures at the border.

EVEN DEMOCRATS ARE SICK OF ELISABETH EPPS AND TIM HERNANDEZ If fundraising numbers are an indication anyway. Both of the pro-Hamas Legislators have drawn primary opponents and they are being out fundraised by a large margin. Epps' opponent has also gotten a bunch of endorsements from her fellow lawmakers. Read about it here.

THE EXTREMISTS ON THE COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE BOARD NEED TO GO And they have been appointed by our extremist Governor who no doubt was heavily influenced by his vegan, animal rights loving husband Marlin Reis. This column about just HOW extreme these board members are may shock you but it shouldn't. A full ban on hunting would not surprise me with this bunch. Sportsmen and women better pay attention.

THE HISTORY OF EUGENICS IN COLORADO Ari Armstrong has a great column on the history of eugenics and the attempts to rid the human race of undesirables in Colorado. One can't help but think about abortion now when one reads it, at least I can't. Aren't we just talking about eliminating people who others have decided aren't worthy of living? And let's not forget that eugenics was at the heart of the founding of Planned Parenthood as well.

EXACTLY HOW MANY LIVESTOCK HAVE TO BE KILLED BEFORE A RANCHER CAN TAKE ACTION? That's the question being asked by a rancher who has had 20 livestock killed in two years by wolves that were already here before they brought more. He's looking for clarity on a rule that allows him to kill the wolves that become a nuisance but doesn't clarify exactly when that it.

LIBERAL ASPEN GETTING CRUSHED BY LIBERAL POLICIES And I'm super sorry for the probable handful of Aspen voters who voted for someone else, but Aspen is now dealing with property tax bills that are insane after it voted overwhelmingly to do away with the Gallagher Amendment years ago. The City Council even wrote a resolution supporting it. Elections have consequences.

ARE WE REALLY TALKING ABOUT REPARATIONS IN COLORADO? If so, I'm opting out, as I just got here and none of my people have lived here during a time when laws were used to oppress anyone. And yet we have a study in the Legislature on how racist Colorado is or something and the fact that Leslie Herod is out in front of it tells me all I need to know.

DEMOCRATS WORKING TO CRUSH SHORT TERM RENTALS Chris Hansen must believe that all money is government money and they just let us keep it. He's pushing a new bill that would tax short term rentals at the same rate as hotels. This is absurd and a money grab that will crush the short term rental market and possibly cause a deflation in the overall real estate market, especially in our resort towns. Read about this awful plan here.

WHY PEOPLE HATE TODAY'S JOURNALISTS IN ONE STORY This one where a professor of Journalism argues that journalists have a responsibility to advocate for democracy. Against what? Just guess. Trump, of course. Read it here but this is why no one trusts the media anymore.

REPUBLICANS ARE MAKING INROADS WITH HISPANICS And this is worrying Democrats quite a bit, especially in heavily Hispanic Arizona where Biden barely won in 2020. Read the story here.

A BAT CATCHES A BAT AT A BASKETBALL GAME And I really want to know where the bat came from on this one.

JOE BIDEN CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO ATTEND A CEREMONY FOR DEAD SOLDIERS Although I'm guessing he might find the time now that all hell has broken loose after it was revealed he didn't have anything on his calendar for that day.

TWO MINUTE DRILL!

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW IS COMING TO LITTLETON And I already signed up for the drawing to get something looked at. I've got some little ivory carvings that are called netsuke and I'd love to know if they are worth anything. Find out how you can sign up here.

WE ARE GOING TO SPEND $14.2 BILLION ON VALENTINE'S DAY Which seems like a ton of money but not really as everything related to the day dramatically jacks up in price right before. How much will you spend?

PLAYING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CAN STAVE OFF DEMENTIA Even singing in a choir helps too. A recent study says so.

Researchers have found that lifelong musical engagement can enhance brain health as we age. The study, conducted by a team from the University of Exeter, highlights the benefits of playing instruments, particularly the piano, in improving memory and the ability to perform complex tasks. Additionally, singing in a choir offers both social and cognitive health benefits.

The connection between playing music and math is well established so it's quite apparent that playing music activates some part of the brain that is important. I can neither play music nor do math.

COLLEGE STUDENTS DON'T GO TO CLASS ANYMORE Because apparently they'd rather do the whole thing online now. So says Coach Deion Sanders about his son Shedeur who only attends class online. Why go to college then? For real? Why? Just do online school from home and save a ton of money.

17 SOCIETAL STANDARDS THAT ARE TOXIC And I've never thought about some of these in this way but the posters are right about a lot of these. Read them here.

KIDS ARE STILL EATING TIDE PODS And honestly maybe it's time to throw a little chlorine into the gene pool if this is truly this rampant. If you have little kids, switch to liquid detergent to avoid any risk. If you have stupid older kids, tell them not to eat laundry pods how about.

WATCH NANCY PELOSI GO FULL OLD LADY RACIST SLAM In this video where she is mixing it up with Pro-Hamas protesters at her house. Listen at the end carefully for the GO BACK TO CHINA WHERE YOU CAME FROM bit, it's magic.

BIG AL GOES TO THE DARK SIDE And it's all on tape.

WE HAVE BROKEN TEENAGERS And they feel it everyday. How much of this anxiety and depression could be solved by getting kids together on a regular basis to just hang out like we did?
